British Ski & Snowboard Show 2004 - Global Snow
Shows
Ski and snowboard stars show off their skills
They fly through the air with the greatest of ease,
Those breathtaking stars on their snowboards and skis
This year’s British Ski & Snowboard Show will
be packed with world class performers. Aerial freestyle
skiers will be launching themselves off a 46 foot Big Air
Ramp, whilst the ‘new school’ of freestyle skiing
and snowboarding will do their thing on the Colorado free
ride zone quarter pipe.
And to top it all off, Britain’s number one female
snowboarder, Lesley McKenna and former Olympic skier Graham
Bell, will both be on hand to give avid skiers and snowboarders
advice and encouragement.
Lesley McKenna
Lesley McKenna is Great Britain’s top competitive
snowboarder and is currently ranked third in the World Cup
half pipe standings. She is our only Olympian snowboarder
and has taken a first, second and third place in World Cup
half pipe competitions over the past year, as well as taking
the half pipe gold medal at the World Cup in Japan 2003.
In between competitions this year, Lesley has been busy
making an all girls snowboarding film ‘Dropstitch’,
which will be previewed at the NEC show.
Lesley commented: “The Show is the ideal place to
have a go at skiing or boarding. I will be on the Visit
Scotland stand and am looking forward to meeting enthusiasts
and beginners alike. It’s going to be a fantastic
environment for anyone interested in skiing, snowboarding
or winter sports.”
Lesley is now training hard and looking forward to the
2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
Graham Bell
Former Olympic skier and popular Ski Sunday presenter Graham
Bell will be
challenging skiers at the show to have a go on the Skier’s
Edge, the technical ski conditioner used by the world’s
best skiers.
After four years as Performance Director for the British
Ski & Snowboard Teams, Graham Bell has switched from
training British Olympic athletes to a new challenge. “My
mission now is to tackle the physical fitness of the average
British skier”.
The British Ski Team has two machines permanently based
in its Olympic training centre in Austria and now for the
first time the Skier’s edge will be available to the
British public. Most importantly it’s fun to use,
and visitors to the show will be able to test the machines,
and take up the challenge to beat Graham’s time.
The British Ski and Snowboard Show will take place at the
National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham from Friday 8th to
Sunday 10th October.
